Pioneering Innovation in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, and Sustainable Technologies

With over two decades of experience, I am a Reader in Solid Mechanics & Materials and a recognized leader in the integration of physics-based and AI-driven simulations for solid mechanics, materials science, and structural analysis. My work bridges the gap between advanced research and real-world industrial applications, helping shape sustainable technologies for the future.

As a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), and Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), I am dedicated to transforming mechanical engineering through cutting-edge research, innovative solutions, and impactful education.

Key Achievements and Vision

  • Ranked among the Top 2% of World Scientists (2020-2023): Recognized by Stanford University & Elsevier for my high-impact research contributions.
  • Leader in Advanced Manufacturing: Actively contributing to global advancements in materials science, renewable wind energy, offshore structural integrity, and hydrogen energy.
  • Extensive Publication Record: Authored over 100 high-impact journal articles, featured in top publications like Elsevier and ASME.
  • Industrial Collaborations: Collaborated with global organizations such as BOEING, Robert BOSCH GmbH, Rolls Royce, and Chevron, driving research that addresses pressing industrial challenges.

My research is built on innovation and sustainability, particularly in ultrasonic welding, peridynamic modeling for structural analysis, crystal plasticity, and multiscale materials modeling. These innovations have had significant practical implications, enhancing manufacturing processes and ensuring the structural integrity of critical components across industries like aerospace, automotive, and energy.

Vision for the Future

My work is guided by a commitment to addressing global sustainability challenges through engineering. By fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations and empowering the next generation of engineers, I aim to advance technological solutions that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.

I am always open to connecting with fellow professionals, collaborators, and students to further drive innovation and impact in the fields of mechanical engineering, materials science, and sustainable technology. Together, we can shape the future of engineering and build solutions that address the world’s most critical challenges.

Feedback & Reviews

Below are some of the feedback and reviews from my students and collaborators. For more reviews and feedback, please checkout my linkedIn profile.

“Dr Siddiq acted as my academic supervisor for my Renewable Energy Engineering MSc. I am very grateful for his support and expertise in Abaqus software, FEA and Wind Energy. Without his help I would not have been able to successfully complete me dissertation project.”

“I’ve had the pleasure of working on projects with Dr Amir during his courses in both “Subsea Integrity” and “Pipelines” at Aberdeen University. Above all, I was impressed by his ability to break down problems using basic and simple engineering mechanics. That skill often takes years to develop, and won’t be possible if not for his extensive knowledge in academia and expertise in the subject matter.”

Muhammad Hamizan

Baker Hughes

“I have known Amir for almost 10 years now and had the opportunity to collaborate with him during my Project work in University of Strathclyde. We worked together investigating the formability of Aluminium alloys by Incremental Sheet Metal Forming (ISF) process by experimental and Finite Element (FE) analysis. Based on the work, we could publish four peer reviewed publication. He was always available for discussion on the project topics despite his busy schedule in University. His knowledge in FE modelling of materials deformation from nano-scale to multi scale is extremely good. The results he produced during the project work were of highest quality in deformation and failure in ISF produced parts and their fracture initiation during forming.”
