New Research: Metastable Beta Titanium Alloys

Metastable beta titanium alloys are incredibly versatile materials used in aerospace, marine, and biomedical applications due to their unique ability to transform under stress. This transformation is believed to be the key to their strength and shape-changing properties. We have developed a new computer model to mimic this process, considering different mechanisms at play and predicting how the material’s internal structure changes. The model’s accuracy was validated against real-world experiments, and computer simulations were used to analyse how individual parts of the material transform under stress. This research provides valuable insights for designing even better titanium alloys with targeted properties for specific applications.
